Best Practices Achieved
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
This water bottle refill station was built by a generous club member for the Melges 2018 Worlds, and is still used today at our club.
2. Eliminate Plastic Straws
The club uses only paper straws.
3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware
Wood cutlery was used as well as compostable plates/bowls.
4. Skip Bags or Go Reusable
We skipped the bag! This was the breakfast option for competitors as well as the race committee. All components of these meals were fully compostable!
5. Award Practical Items or Use a Perpetual or Upcycled Trophy
This photo depicts both items. A perpetual trophy as well as reusable Yeti cups as awards!
6. Publicize Your Sustainability Efforts
Our sustainability efforts were publicized on the club’s facebook page as well as in the NOR. We highlighted all sustainability efforts with a green leaf!
11. Ensure Proper Waste Bin Placement and Signage
The club always ensures proper bins for recycling and compost.
10. Organize a Green Team
I organized myself and my husband as our green team!
9. Serve Local Food or Source Seafood Sustainably
The club always serves sustainably sourced seafood and sourced locally fruit and vegetables.
13. Use Paperless Event Management
We used Club Spot. A paperless management system for this regatta.
17. Offer Vegetarian or Vegan Alternatives
There were vegetarian options available at the dinner and for lunch breakfast offerings. Curried chickpeas on ciabatta bun. Pasta and vegetable salad. Breakfasts and lunches were offered with meat as a protein optional.
20. Inspire Future Action
I believe we are inspiring future action by continuing to register THRASH regatta each year, talking about it to other members as well as advertising in the JibSheet and on social media that we are hosting a Clean Regatta with Sailors for the Sea! Yay!
Thank you!
