Best Practices Achieved
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware
5. Award Practical Items or Use a Perpetual or Upcycled Trophy
We try to make our merchandise and gifts, practical and usable so that we aren’t just giving people out more stuff. eg Bags, buffs, reusable water bottles. Or local perishable items such as artisan chocolates or locally made honey.
The end of Rally gifts will be decanters and glasses sets
7. Involve Local Organizations
Tonga beach clean organised with Vepa:https://vavauenvironment.org/
Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) did a talk about local efforts at start of rally.
Some boats visited the coral gardeners in French Polynesia
8. Post Educational and Reusable Signage
We use reusable signs for our office and reusable flags
9. Serve Local Food or Source Seafood Sustainably
Whenever possible at events food is sourced locally and is representative of that country. For example in French Polynesia the food is cooked in a traditional ground oven in banana leaves.
11. Ensure Proper Waste Bin Placement and Signage
We let the fleet know in each destination where the bins are and where the recycling bins are along with what can't be recycled in that destination. For example in Nuku Hiva you can't recycle carboard. We encourage boats to take waste to large main islands if possible.
13. Use Paperless Event Management
we use the oyster rally app and emails for sending any information out
14. Host a Beach or Marina Cleanup
We encourage boats to organise their own but also sometimes organise fleet clean ups such as in Panama, Tonga, Vanuatu
15. Prevent Toxins from Entering the Water
We encourage all boats to only use non toxic products onboard. Our aftersales team works with Eco works to help faciliate this.
16. Increase Awareness of Wildlife and Habitat Protection
We run seminars on being eco minded when travelling and being mindful of respecting places they are visiting. We also encourage our local skippers briefing guides to talk about these sub jects in their briefings
17. Offer Vegetarian or Vegan Alternatives
Where possible in each event we offer vegetarian options and if possible vegan also.
