Best Practices Achieved

1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations

YCCS did not provide single use water bottles. During the event, participants were encouraged to use reusable water bottles and the water fountain at the Club, so as to avoid using disposable plastic bottles.

2. Eliminate Plastic Straws

No plastic straws were used.

3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware

During the post-race refreshments, no plastic dinnerware was used; only biodegradable materials were used.

4. Skip Bags or Go Reusable

During the event, packed lunches were provided in reusable bags, so as to avoid the use of disposable plastic bags. Also, the tapperware provided were washed every day and distibuited again the day after.

5. Award Practical Items or Use a Perpetual or Upcycled Trophy

The winner of the event was presented with a perpetual trophy.

6. Publicize Your Sustainability Efforts

One of the official event documents highlighted YCCS’s commitment to sustainability. Content relating to sustainability is being posted on social media, such as the reel published to mark Earth Day.

7. Involve Local Organizations

We agreed with the municipality of Arzachena to spread some of the communications they produced onrespect for the environment.

8. Post Educational and Reusable Signage

Educational signs have been put up in the media room and other areas of the club to help people sort their waste. Also, dedicated bins were placed around the regatta village.

9. Serve Local Food or Source Seafood Sustainably

Local food was served during the post-race refreshments.

10. Organize a Green Team

The green team during the event checked that the checklist was followed and respected.

11. Ensure Proper Waste Bin Placement and Signage

The rubbish bins clearly indicated what to put in them.

12. Divert Food Waste from the Landfill

In our country, waste collection is by law differentiated.

13. Use Paperless Event Management

All official race documents have been published in PDF format on the website, in order to reduce the need for printing.

15. Prevent Toxins from Entering the Water

As stated in the document, the use of toxic substances to clean hulls is strongly discouraged.

16. Increase Awareness of Wildlife and Habitat Protection

Protecting the marine ecosystem is one of the key priorities in the organisation of regattas. This document has been spread among the participants of the event.

17. Offer Vegetarian or Vegan Alternatives

Vegetarian options were served during the post-race refreshments.

18. Promote Alternative Transportation

A transfer service from the airport was provided during the event.

19. Reduce Day-of Emissions

During the regattas, MarkSetBot robotic buoys were used; these do not need to be anchored to the seabed as they maintain their position using an electric motor and a GPS system.

20. Inspire Future Action

Participants were encouraged to respect the environment.
