Best Practices Achieved
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
Water, hot drinks and soup were provided, participants should bring their own utensils.
Soup was vegetarian, it was provided by a local business, was made with a local recipe and locally sourced ingredients.
Some were provided, but made of paper and compostable.
3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware
7. Involve Local Organizations
The IKA was in charge of running the event. The Clean Lakes Alliance, a local organization, was running all the sustainability initiatives.
6. Publicize Your Sustainability Efforts
A 5K walk/run on the frozen lake was organized, bringing thousands of people on the frozen water
13. Use Paperless Event Management
There is nothing printed in running the event.
They notice board is online and the communication is made through a Telegram group, where competitors can find all the relevant links.
It is not only sustainable but also very very practical!
