Best Practices Achieved
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
The company from which we usually rent our refill stations unfortunately went out of business. Unable to find a cost-effective alternative, we created our own water bottle refill stations that were positioned around the shows.
2. Eliminate Plastic Straws
Paper straws were provided in the VIP tent instead of plastic.
3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware
Bamboo plates, knives, forks, and spoons were used in the VIP section
11. Ensure Proper Waste Bin Placement and Signage
Blue recycling bins were placed throughout the show with informational signage. Restrictor lids were place on top.
16. Increase Awareness of Wildlife and Habitat Protection
We noticed that a lot of our attendees were looking over the edge of the dock at the schools of menhaden, so we created an informational reel about them. The video ended up getting over 100k impressions and (in the comment section) generated discussion about the problems caused by harvesting them.
