Best Practices Achieved
3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware
All of our social meals were served on plates and silverware.
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
There was a water station set up inside, permanent water refilling stations inside and outside, along with bartenders that would refill water bottles as requested.
2. Eliminate Plastic Straws
Plastic straws no provided.
4. Skip Bags or Go Reusable
We use reusable Helly Hansen bags.
5. Award Practical Items or Use a Perpetual or Upcycled Trophy
We award Helly Hansen bags.
6. Publicize Your Sustainability Efforts
Yes we publicize at the club and on our creative materials and website.
7. Involve Local Organizations
Reached out to local organizations and the club to make sure recycling was occurring.
9. Serve Local Food or Source Seafood Sustainably
Definitely - very good local food. The chef took his time to source it.
10. Organize a Green Team
Our volunteers helped us to make sure our packing/shipping materials were all disposed of properly.
12. Divert Food Waste from the Landfill
At this event, the food was amazing. Chef had planned it, we didn't have food waste.
13. Use Paperless Event Management
Event management was all online through Yachtscoring.
17. Offer Vegetarian or Vegan Alternatives
Those were offered every evening to make sure all dietary restrictions were honored.
20. Inspire Future Action
We not only have junior sailors, but also a youth keel boat series. Having all of our information sent to them and around them during the regatta will hopefully help inspire them.
18. Promote Alternative Transportation
Chicago makes it easy. First the city is walkable. Then there are multiple bikes, ebikes, scooters, etc that can be used as transportation.
