Best Practices Achieved
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
Our NOR states the following:
5.2 Please bring your own reusable water bottles. Reusable cups are strongly encouraged for
use on shore. Bottled water will not be provided.
2. Eliminate Plastic Straws
We do not provide any beverages that include straws.
3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware
Our homemade meals are served with re-usable plates and utensils, which are washed in our kitchen.
Our "make-your-own" lunch line provides wax paper and paper bags to wrap sandwiches and using your own dry bag to bring lunch on the water is encouraged.
4. Skip Bags or Go Reusable
See details regarding "make your own" lunches for the water.
5. Award Practical Items or Use a Perpetual or Upcycled Trophy
Photo shows winning team with the re-usable fabric tote bag awards and the perpetual hand-carved 1st place trophy.
7. Involve Local Organizations
Our compost bin service was provided by a local company.
9. Serve Local Food or Source Seafood Sustainably
Most of the produce provided (lunch tomatoes, dinner corn on the cob and potatoes) was locally grown.
11. Ensure Proper Waste Bin Placement and Signage
Photo shows compost, landfill, NY state returnables, and recycling bins.
12. Divert Food Waste from the Landfill
Compost service accepted plant and animal based food scraps, as well as paper products.
17. Offer Vegetarian or Vegan Alternatives
Vegetarian and vegan options were provided at all meals, and vegetarians got to go through the dinner line first, to ensure they got their fill of the vegan options!
