Best Practices Achieved
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
The regatta organisers provide water refill stations for all sailors, coaches and members of the organisation. Water refill stations are located in the beach hospitality tent and the Club area near the Race Committee and Coach boats
3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware
All teams are offered hot food every day after the day’s races and a served with plastic-free dinnerware. The dinnerware provider also meets care for the environment requirements.
2. Eliminate Plastic Straws
No plastic straws are available at the venue. In fact, no straws at all. When drinks are served, they are served in recycled material glasses.
4. Skip Bags or Go Reusable
All items or details given to sailors and coaches.
In case of the T-shirts, the supplier meets 'care of the environment' requirements and T-shirts are produced in fairtrade cotton and/or recycled material.
Cookies made by a local bakery were also presented this year as a special detail to sailors celebating their Birthday during the regatta.
5. Award Practical Items or Use a Perpetual or Upcycled Trophy
The overall winner of the regatta is awarded a Perpetual Trophy.
6. Publicize Your Sustainability Efforts
- Daily short reports and press releases are posted on the website, Facebook and APP.
- A special communication plan is designed for Instagram.
- Press releases are sent to local, regional, national and international media.
- Interviews at the local radio and TV
7. Involve Local Organizations
The Club’s #SeaClean campaign which started in 2016 has been a great way to involve the local schools as well as the Summer Sailing School participants.
School visits to bring sustainability and care for the oceans closer to all the young generations
The Club continues its involvment with EcoNautic, a tool created to promote the CULTURE OF THE SEA among all those practising nautical activities. It aims at making people aware of the importance of the seas and oceans and contribute to Global Goal 14 Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
Our Club is one of the members of the group that promoted this sustainable initiative.
11. Ensure Proper Waste Bin Placement and Signage
13. Use Paperless Event Management
Registration and all regatta management is made onlie using the Sailti Race Management platform and the APP for communication and notifications to all sailors.
All information is published on the event websites, the Club social networks and APP to inform all teams and interested people.
