Best Practices Achieved

1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations

We will have a water refill station on site at the event, with signage that encouraged refilling water bottles. And we have eliminated the main sources of single-use plastic such as: water bottles, food containers and identificacion stickers. Instead of having stickers for sponsors, we include their logo at the bottom of the edited images.

2. Eliminate Plastic Straws

Our event will be 100% plastic straw free: all beverages offered at the welcome party, and at the official race dinner, will be straw free.

3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware

Elimination of food containers and plastic cups. Only ceramic tableware will be used during the meals.

4. Skip Bags or Go Reusable

All attendees will be provided with reusable bags

5. Award Practical Items or Use a Perpetual or Upcycled Trophy

Our trophies are made of wood and metal

6. Publicize Your Sustainability Efforts

The Club Vela Calella will have reusable signs posted at the registration area. The signs consisted of a descripcion of the clean regatta campaign.

7. Involve Local Organizations

We are well aware of what a powerful tool fostering local development can be when organizing and event. They can bring together people of different back grounds and ages, boost the local economy, encourage culture and tourism and generate new ideas and opoortunities for the community. The regatta attracts visitors and creates a positive impact on the local economy by increasing employment opportunities and promoting collaboration between local residents. We work very rigorously with various factors such as accessibility, safety and environmental impact, as well as working xlosely with local companies to ensure that the benefits of the event are distributed and the community is involved in its planning and execution, increaing thus the sense of community, generating temporary jobs and also exhibiting our tourist attraction to vositors,.

8. Post Educational and Reusable Signage

Both in the office and on the beach, there are signs to ebncourage the non-generation of waste and recycling.

9. Serve Local Food or Source Seafood Sustainably

A high percentage of the meals offered by Calella Sailing Club are local food based.

10. Organize a Green Team

The green team will be made up of different members, ensuring compliance with the clean regatta campaign by collecting information and submitting it online for the final report. Beach and sea staff had bags to separate organic/plastic litter on the beach and in the water.

11. Ensure Proper Waste Bin Placement and Signage

We will have staff on site ensuring all waste is removed from the beach, and disposing of it in the receptcles placed specifically for the attendees.

12. Divert Food Waste from the Landfill

we will donate the leftover food to a local charity.

13. Use Paperless Event Management

The participants will have all the information about the race available on our website. We also provided them with QR codes which redirected them to the regatta section. At the registration area, participants will be able to check on a television screen the results and other information related to the race.

14. Host a Beach or Marina Cleanup

Every day and several times, the green team is organized to check and remove all waste from the beach and surroundings.

18. Promote Alternative Transportation

The Club Vela Calella will offer to sailors a list of hotels and apartments located as near as possible to the boat area. We also will provide them with information on bicycle rental.

15. Prevent Toxins from Entering the Water

ll sea and land staff constantly monitor that no one from the staff or participants throws anything into the sea. We provide them with reusable materials and containers to collect.

17. Offer Vegetarian or Vegan Alternatives

Local food and vegetarian or vegan alternatives will be served at the official regatta dinner.
