Best Practices Achieved

1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations

We gave staff water bottles to fill in the fountain that dispenses drinking water to encourage the reuse of bottles and containers

2. Eliminate Plastic Straws

We do not use anymore plastic straws during our regattas

3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware

for post-race refreshments we used biodegradable material and not plastic

4. Skip Bags or Go Reusable

The OA in collaboration with the title sponsor provided a reusable skipper bag with the event logo

6. Publicize Your Sustainability Efforts

We have shown on the ledwall in the Piazza Azzurra the attached slide listing some of the initiatives the YCCS is doing to reduce its impact

7. Involve Local Organizations

We agreed with the municipality of Arzachena to spread some of the communications they produced on respect for the environment. These materials were shared on the ledwall in the piazza azzurra during the after-race to raise awareness of the issue.

8. Post Educational and Reusable Signage

Educational signs were posted in the media room and at other points to help people differentiate waste.

9. Serve Local Food or Source Seafood Sustainably

Local 0 km food was served during the event

10. Organize a Green Team

the green team during the event checked that the checklist was followed and respected

11. Ensure Proper Waste Bin Placement and Signage

signs have been placed on the rubbish bins clearly indicating the type of waste to be delivered

12. Divert Food Waste from the Landfill

In our country, waste collection is by law differentiated

13. Use Paperless Event Management

All the official documents of the event were published online and the documents to be completed by the team were available online in a pdf open form to be filled

15. Promote Alternative Transportation

event participants were provided with a transfer service from the airport and to the crew party, a service provided by the YCCS

16. Increase Awareness of Wildlife and Habitat Protection

During the event were shown on the ledwall in Piazza Azzurra some contents such as the Charta Smeralda (an ethic code related to the marine preservation). Also on the 8th of June were shown the drawings on the theme of climate change done by the students that took part at the YCCS Clean Beach Day. In the social media were shared content about the marine pollution to sensitize the followers and the regatta participants

17. Offer Vegetarian or Vegan Alternatives

Vegetarian alternatives were provided

18. Use Eco-Smart Management Techniques

With the aim of reducing environmental impact, MarkSetBot robotic buoys were used during the event, which maintain their position thanks to an electric motor combined with a GPS system, eliminating the need for anchors on the seabed

19. Prevent Toxins from Entering the Water

In the Notice of Race there is a dedicated paragraph in which the participants are reminded to respect the environment while in harbour

20. Encourage Green Boating Practices

In the Notice of Race, in the Charta Smeralda shown in Piazza Azzurra there are specific indications regarding green boating

14. Host a Beach or Marina Cleanup

A few days before the event, YCCS organised a YCCS Clean Beach Day involving the local school, with the support of the Municipality of Arzachena
