Best Practices Achieved
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
1. We provided two 5 gallon dispensers of ice water with large signs. Our Notice of Race instructed sailors to bring a refillable water bottle.
2. We do not use or supply straws at all.
3. We used corning ware plates, real flatware, and glass for serving. We have steel buffet pans/chafing pan sets. We used fabric tablecloths.
4. Reusable fabric totes were given as skippers bags. We did not print sailing instructions but provided an image that sailors could copy to their phones.
5. We awarded insulated steel tumblers in the traditional flag colors for fleet winners and as "keepers" for our Perpetual trophies.
6. Our posters included your logo and I did a presentation at a membership meeting about our efforts.
7. Our sponsors (local sail loft and other businesses) posted our literature including Clean Regattas information
8, Labeled recycling bins, refundable can bins, and water refilling stations.
9. We have a "Green Team" for the whole yacht club now! All GYC sponsored events will follow these guidelines
11. Added another large recycling tote. Improved labeling
16. Educated membership during presentation
17. Offered vegan options on our picnic menu
18. Most publicity and information was provided electronically and in person. Minimal paper was used.
19. Toxins: Proper waste disposal
20. We ran a slide show throughout the event which promoted our efforts and including recommendations for other initiatives as shown on your website.
