Best Practices Achieved
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
1. We used coolers filled with ice water and a drink dispenser.
2. Eliminate Plastic Straws
We never use straws.
3. Serve Food with Plastic-Free Dinnerware
Paper plates, bowls; stainless cutlery; washable cups and serving utensils.
4. Skip Bags or Go Reusable
Everyone uses cloth bags.
5. Award Practical Items or Use a Perpetual or Upcycled Trophy
Annual award: adds a faceplate each year; Race awards are pint glasses.
6. Publicize Your Sustainability Efforts
We publicized on our 2 FB pages, a local sailing page, on our club GroupMe and at our clubhouse.
7. Involve Local Organizations
We partner with Clean Coast to do local beach and land cleanups once a month and to promote sustainability year round. This photo is from our website.
8. Post Educational and Reusable Signage
We recycle! We wash!
9. Serve Local Food or Source Seafood Sustainably
Though we provide some meat, we also provide local fish, shrimp, and other seafood, and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, all made by our members and many ingredients sourced from our local farmers market.
10. Organize a Green Team
I consider all our members part of our green team. There's still more education needed, but we've come a very long way!
11. Ensure Proper Waste Bin Placement and Signage
Same photo for signage.
13. Use Paperless Event Management
All of our information is posted on Regatta Network, FB and email, and though some print it out, most use their phones to refer to SI and NORs while racing.
17. Offer Vegetarian or Vegan Alternatives
Same photo! Lots of great veggie options!
14. Host a Beach or Marina Cleanup
One week after the regatta we worked with Clean Coast to cleanup trash on Raccoon Key, using biodegradable, recycled trash bags.
1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations
We also give water bottles for awards, and most of us use reusable bottles everywhere.
