Best Practices Achieved
2. Eliminate Plastic Straws
1. We do not provide single-use water bottles. We have potable tap water and encourage participants to bring reusable bottles.
2. We do not provide straws.
3. We used and washed club-owned, non-plastic plates and utensils.
4. Brown paper bags and wax paper were provided for the make-your-own lunch sandwiches, not plastic. Participants were encouraged to use re-usable dry bags for lunch storage on the water.
5. Awards were practical items (personal dry bags and boat safety whistles) and a top place perpetual.
7. A local composting company was utilized for our composting bins, signage and compost removal.
9. We held our usual roast turkey dinner -- including roasted corn on the cob -- grown locally.
11. We had compost signage from the composting company, as well as labels for the trash, bottle/can returnables (NY 5 cent), and recyclables.
12. Most of the food waste went into the compost bins. After our Sat night roast turkey dinner (with corn and mashed potatoes) -- our Sunday lunch is turkey soup (made with leftover turkey and bone broth, made with roasted leftover bones) and a vegan corn chowder, made with leftover corn and potatoes).
17. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners all had vegetarian and vegan options.
