Best Practices Achieved

1. Eliminate Single-Use Water Bottles and Provide Water Refill Stations

1. Only cans of cold drinks were provided. Empty cans were collected and brought to East Lyme High School can collection fundraiser. Water refill station was available. 2. No Straws at this regatta. 3. Clam chowder was served in repurposed cups with wooden spoons. 4. No bags were necessary. One area that was a departure was including a few small bags of oyster crackers. We noted the edits we can make to next year's plan to address this. 5. Awards were a ball of rope/monkey's fist that can be used as a doorstop or bookend. 6. Well publicized through social media as well as signs throughout the clubhouse. Our 14-year-old green team member, Olivia, made sure to make signage colorful and available for all to see. 7. East Lyme High School received our empty cans for recycling. Mystic Aquarium provided a touch tank of live animals for families to explore. This event was paid for by Niantic Bay Sailing Academy, which was the recipient of the fundraiser. 8. Signs were made by sailing students and posted throughout the yacht club. Several of the signs remain at the yacht club and are reusable/laminated. 9. Clam chowder was served at the reception and our galley served vegetarian pierogies. Glass plates and stainless steel flatware were used. 10. Green team was established in preparation for the Larry White Regatta and the Wednesday Night Fundraiser regatta. We're happy to welcome several youth members to our green team this year who can hopefully carry forward our practices in future years. 11. Bins well marked for recyclable cans. 13. Paperless Event: registration not necessary. 14. Beach cleanup was held during the NBSA classes the week of the regatta. 15. Only water from hose used to wash down boats. 16. Olivia Murin worked on this regatta as a project for Girl Scouts and will be presenting to the administration for Girl Scouts . Olivia and Kennedy Nemec will be planning future clean regattas at Niantic Bay Yacht Club. One of their initiatives was to create reusable signage as well as social media posts concerning awareness of local wildlife and habitat protection. 17. Vegetarian pierogies were available for dinner. 19. Only one crash boat/committee boat were used - no spectator boats.
